Shopify FAQs
Question: In Shopify, I notice there is a handling fee of $75 surcharge. This charge doesn’t seem to be reflecting on the cost breakdown in FreightExchange.
Answer: The handling fee is configured in your Shopify setup. To set or adjust it:
- Go to Settings > Shipping and delivery in Shopify.
- Click the shipping profile you want to edit (you’re already on one!).
- Next to the carrier-calculated rate, click the menu and select Edit shipping option.
- In the Handling fee section, enter either a flat amount or a percentage to add on top of the carrier rate.
- Click Done, then Save.
⚠️ Note: The handling fee set in Shopify is not passed from the FreightExchange plugin. It is a Shopify setting that can be changed in your store, and it will not reflect in the cost breakdown in FreightExchange quotes.
Question: How should I handle products with multiple variants or packages in Shopify for accurate FreightExchange quotes?
Answer: Follow these guidelines:
- Multiple Variants with Same Dimensions
- Even if a product has multiple variants with the same dimensions, create separate packaging entries for each variant SKU in FreightExchange.
- Single-Package Products
- If a product ships in a single package, delete any PackagingIds metafields in Shopify.
- Products with Multiple Packages
- In Shopify, create a custom metafield called packagingids for your products.
- Enter the corresponding FreightExchange Packaging Ids into this metafield.
- Important: To ensure the plugin correctly identifies the SKUs, separate multiple IDs with commas without spaces.
- Purpose: The plugin reads the IDs exactly as entered. Extra spaces will prevent it from matching SKUs correctly.
- ✅ Correct:
ID01-0,ID01-1,ID01-2 - ❌ Incorrect:
ID01-0, ID01-1, ID01-2
